How to Increase Your Energy After 50
If you’ve been wondering how to increase your energy after 50 and feel like you are doing all the things but it’s just not working, then here are 5 easy, quick, and effective methods to raise your energy and help you get unstuck in life.
Many women in this stage of life face burnout, or feel disconnected from their own energy and vitality. By focusing on these simple but powerful practices, you can reclaim your energy, and change that “stuck” feeling, and enjoy life to the fullest.
If you’re feeling tired, unmotivated, or just plain stuck after 50, it’s time to reignite your energy and rediscover the spark that makes life exciting.
The most helpful thing you can do for yourself is increase your energy and get unstuck. Why? Because the best feeling life is when you are connecting with others and using your body, mind, and soul to create.
This sets the tone for transformation and emphasizes the energy shift that can make a huge impact.
This isn’t going to be your typical list. We all know the things like get more sleep, eat better, and move our bodes.
Those are all important and I’ve written tons on eating and moving your body. But your energy is also mental and spiritual. So, to fully feel energetic you must address that unseen part of you.
For over 20 years, I’ve been using these practices to do just that. They are all simple to do, require little time, and yet they pack a punch. You will literally change your energy and how you feel by doing them.
How do you know if you need to raise your energy and get unstuck? Do you feel like this?

Signs You Need to Increase Your Energy
- You feel more tired than you think you should
- Lack the motivation to do things
- Bored by your life
- Feel like you are missing out
- Have something you want to do but can’t get started
- Don’t know what to do
These are all signs you might be feeling STUCK in life and need to increase your energy.
Over and over, I come back to these activities because they work like nothing else ever has. When I feel like I’m stuck, I’ll pick one or two to do for a few days.
And in almost no time, I am unstuck and getting things done!
To help you get unstuck, I’m providing my methods here and I’ve included worksheets and a couple of guided meditations.
Only one of the practices is about getting things done. The other practices raise your energy and vibe. You will FEEL different and it will be much easier to move through your life. You become different without even having to try to be different.
It feels magical!
And it’s easy. You don’t have to do all the practices every day. Do each one for a few days and see what happens. I go back to these practices all the time because they work.
I believe they work because they allow you to tap into different parts of your brain. When we feel stuck, we are always stuck in our head. And it feels confusing and painful.
These simple practices get you out of your head and into your body. Each of them helps you gently move from thinking about something to feeling it differently.
You give yourself some breathing space and peace.
While this might not make sense just reading about it, it is powerful. After working with women for five years, I’ve come to believe that feeling calm is the most powerful emotion we can cultivate. When we truly feel that deep calm, we can do anything.
5 Ways to Increase Your Energy
Ready to get unstuck? Here are my top five ways to get some energy into your life. I’ll show them how to make them work for you.
- Gratitude
- Forgiveness
- Get Something Done
- Declutter
- Guided Meditation
I’ve been doing some of these practices for over 25 years. When I “don’t know what to do,” I find that doing any of these can help clear my mind.
What usually happens is that I’ll feel stuck, pick a practice to do for a few days, and before I know it, I am unstuck and know what to do.
They are all important to me and I believe that they are important to integrate into my life on a regular basis.
To get started, I recommend you do all of them over a period of time, just to see how each one feels. Or pick a couple that appeal to you. They all work. This isn’t about getting them all done. It’s about doing enough that you FEEL different. You FEEL better.
Use Gratitude to Change Your Life
You see gratitude memes, signs, and journals all over the place for a reason. Gratitude is a powerful emotion to feel on the regular. But what does it really do?
Eight years ago, I created my own gratitude practice and I swear, life has never been the same since. Within a few months I was in love, traveling, and had a new job. Since then, I’ve continued to grow my life.
Here is how I did it.
All expressions of gratitude are great but for me, I found just listing a few things daily kind of dry. It wasn’t harmful but it wasn’t creating a big change.
So, I added photos and a happiness jar to amp it up a bit. It seemed to work.
I also like to make lists of things I grateful for. I will make long lists of everything I can think of. Here are some of my lists. I keep them on my computer or in a notebook and I love going back rereading them and adding to them.
- The places I’ve traveled
- The restaurants I’ve eaten at
- The nice things that have happened to me
- Things that are going well in life
- Nice things people have done for me
- Cool experiences I’ve had
- My accomplishments
Have fun with gratitude! Find you own way that makes you feel great. That’s the whole point, is to feel better. You’ll know it is working when you feel better.
Forgiveness is the Gift You Give Yourself
Like most people, I didn’t really understand forgiveness. I thought it was something that I granted to other people.
What I learned instead was it was something I granted to myself. By forgiving someone, I was letting go of that energy that bound us together in an unhealthy way.
The intention to forgive will come first, even before you feel like you can forgive.
You’ll know you’ve forgiven someone when you think of them and you just don’t feel any kind of charge. You are aware, you haven’t forgotten, but it’s not energetically taking up space in your body.
I have two specific practices I use for this. For one of them I have a guided meditation that a coach friend wrote and narrated for it. The link will take you to the post where it is.
My other practice involves writing and I write out the name of every single person or situation that could use a little forgiveness. Then I go through the list, say I forgive and then cross it out.
Neither of these practices require you to feel all lovey. You are simply creating the intention to forgive and then trusting that at some point it will happen.
This works so well that I try to do the list thing a couple of times a year.
Declutter Your Space to Raise Your Energy
This is probably my favorite practice. I feel better and I get something done. I have often said that cleaning out a drawer or cabinet is as good as a therapy session.
When I clean something out, it feels like I am also cleaning out and organizing my brain. Then if it is a space that I see often, I get that thrill throughout the day.
The process is simple. Pick one space such as a drawer, a shelf, or a cabinet. You don’t have to do an entire closet or room. Just pick one part of it that needs some TLC.
Here are the steps to declutter your space.
- Remove everything from that space
- Wipe down the space so you start with a clean surface
- Throw away any trash
- If something doesn’t belong there, put it where it belongs
- Put the rest back in an organized pleasing way
- Enjoy your space!
I do this practice often! Even living alone, spaces can get messy and cluttered. Some of my favorite places to do this are my underwear drawer (I wrote about that in an email once, you can read it here.), my sock drawer, my kitchen pantry, and the “catch all” drawer in my kitchen.
Other places that often need tending are my make-up and toiletry drawers, my shoes, and my hanging clothes.
I first got this idea from the book, Clear Your Clutter with Feng Shui over 25 years ago. Clearing clutter is crazy powerful and healing.
So, remember, you don’t have to declutter your entire house to get the benefits. Give yourself the gift of doing small easier spaces first.
Earlier this summer, I went through a painful breakup and I began decluttering any space I could. It didn’t make my grief go away, but it made it manageable. And I had the sense that I was moving through these difficult feelings in a healthy way.
You can do one space a day or one space a week. Have fun with this one!
Get Something Done
Those of us that are stuck, often have things that need to be done that we keep putting off. I think of these things as bottlenecks in our life.
You might not think that having undone things is a huge problem but it can create the feeling of less energy and feeling stuck.
20 years ago, I made a list of everything that I felt was undone in my life and I got to work on it, starting with the easiest things first.
You don’t have to do that!
Take out some paper and a pen. Write down a few things that pop up that might be your bottleneck. It might be as small as a pesky phone call you need to make or an appointment you’ve been putting off.
It could be stopping a reoccurring charge for something you don’t use or getting something like a leaky faucet fixed.
Pick a couple of things and take care of them. It really is that simple. The more you don’t want to do it—means go for it. That’s the one you need to get done. But it’s also fine to start with the ones that feel easier.
No judgement! We all have these things we need to do but put off until we have to.
I call these bottlenecks for a reason. They literally choke off our energy. You aren’t even conscious of this; but you use a lot of your energy to not do things! I believe that we might even use MORE energy to not do things.
So when you just do the things, you open up so much of your energy! Here is a worksheet to get things done.

Guided Meditation to Increase Your Energy
This love and light meditation is a relaxing way to help you get unstuck by increasing the energy in your body.
For years I have used guided meditations to feel better and I believe that has assisted me in being healthy and helping me heal when I have been sick.
I had one that I would do in my head that always helped me feel better, so I decided to make my own guided meditation. The result is this Love and Light Meditation.
This love and light-filled meditation only takes about 7 minutes. You can do it sitting or lying down, whichever is most relaxing for you.
We can literally create more energy in our bodies by using our imaginations to visualize it.

5 Ways to Increase Your Energy After 50 and Get Unstuck
There you have it! This is how you can increase your energy and get unstuck. To be perfectly honest, you are never going to get it all done and the only finish line in this life is death.
The fun in life is feeling energetic and using that energy to connect with others and use our bodies, mind, and souls to create.
It really doesn’t matter HOW you do all that—it just matters that you do. Being stuck means you aren’t creating or connecting like you could and that just feels bad.
These simple practices will help you feel better and that my friend is where the magic can happen. You can’t beat yourself up into feeling better.
However, you can love yourself into feeling better by giving yourself the gift of taking the time to increase your energy, which in turn allows your spirit to get involved.
Have fun and let me know how it goes!
