Tho I have 9 children, when the first of my 27 grands arrived, I realized I had to shift gears and do things differently.

I got a tote for paint supplies and saved some Tshirts to put over their clothing.

We have tea parties regularly where they pour their tea from small pots. The table cloth is a large towel.

PapaSam hooks the 4x6 trailer behind the lawñmower, throws an old quilt on it and the kids pile on for a ride to see the animals up the road.

The last year the kids have enjoyed hunted for and catching toads and frogs and salamanders for releasing when the grands have to go home.

7 of my kids and their families live within 25 minutes. We have them over for Monday Night Stafford Supper a couple times a month. Whoever can, will come. Attendance varies from 15-38. For the meal, I group text. I prepare the main dish and ask for volunteers for the sides. I figure we will eat what is brought, and I offer pbj's as an option.

My kids like each other. If they ever have disagreements, I never hear about it and I like it that way. The family is such a blessing! ~jsc

I totally agree with your article on grandkids feel at home . I use the empty kraft pimento cheese jar as a sturdy child size drink glass for the little ones . The kiddos love for me to make anything the "old fashioned way" on the stove top instead of microwave ( pancakes, mac and cheese from a box, pudding or hot cocoa from scratch). We also usually play some classic board games such as trouble, checkers, monopoly jr, battleship, connect four or cards . I have a shallow dresser drawer for a change of clothes , undies ,and socks for them. (Emergencies still happen). I love the grandkids, exhausted when they leave , but wouldn't give it up for anything.
