We did a driving day trip with our 3 oldest grandkids – ages 8, 6 and 4 – a “Guess Where Adventure” with Grandma and Grandpa. We had 6 envelopes with a cute graphic and numbered 1-6 with a picture inside (but not too obvious) of what we were doing next. Each child got to take turns and opened 2 clues each and they all had fun guessing where. We ended up 1.5 hours from our residence in southern Alberta and did stops along the way. A bonus stop on the way home was at a playground we passed on the drive up that wasn’t in the clues. It was a lot of fun!

I loved playing in the leaves as a kid!

I grew up playing charades but I haven’t tried it with my grandchildren. We are a family aged 4 to 75, so I love the idea of cards for different ability levels. Thanks for the suggestion 💕 I am going to order some today. Sara

A good game that can include most ages is Charades. I picked up a set of cards for children. There are 3 ability levels to choose from on each card. Before the grands are readers they either try to do the picture or a designator reads off the suggestions on that card! Our whole family plays with the littles and we are crack up at the “performances “!

We live on five wooded acres in the woods and I have plans to do a scavenger hunt when they come up next month, we will look for animal bones, turtles, pine cones, shiny/pretty rocks, mushrooms, wildflowers, worms,etc. Last year our five yr old granddaughter and her 8 yr old sister wanted ken and Barbie get married, so we planned the event and we have a creek down in the woods so I set up a string of twinkle lights at the creek side and we played the wedding March while Barbie walked down the steps to the creek side and we threw petals from wildflowers and had a ceremony for them and the girls helped me bake mini brownie cakes and they decorated them for all of us to eat after the ceremony!

I have to drive an hour now to see my grandchildren too but it’s always time well spent. I also loved sharing art with my grandkids. But they have exceeded my talents at this point! We still love doing things together though. And now when I visit, they love showing me all the things they’ve been working on. Well done on pitching in with the homeschool curriculum!

I just retired from teaching last year and 2 of my kids` families homeschool. One of my favourite subjects was art so I drive one and a half hours one way and then a few days later one hour the other way to get to teach them and spend time with them. As they get older and their lives get busier, it is more challenging for them to get to come my way. Sara
